FOOD GUIDE
Daniel et Daniel
Behind the kitchen door, you may glimpse the hive of industry that
is one of the city's most successful catering companies. The petite
retail emporium draws on the same resources, at its best for such
classic French goodies as individual creme caramels, buche de Noel,
croqembouche, famous quiches, scrumptious croissants. Salads and complete
lunches are packaged and refrigerated; crisp spring rolls and irresistible
chicken chimichangas are perennials.
Everything on the shelves is the best: French candies from Barnier,
Maxim's de Paris prettily packaged chocolates, jars of cherries preserved
as a semi-confit in wooden gift boxes. You gotta love a store that
leaves gourmet dog biscuits in a jar on the floor.
